Last Thursday we began transitioning Julianna to her crib for bedtime. She has been taking her naps in her crib for a few months now, but still slept in the bassinet, in our room at night. I had always planned on moving her from the bassinet to the crib when she was about 3 or 4 months but when the 4 month mark rolled around, I had no desire to move her. Julianna seemed comfortable where she was sleeping , I was comfortable where she was sleeping and we were all sleeping peacefully through the night. I really liked having her close enough to hear every breath and any little move she made. (is that weird?) I knew she wouldn't be sleeping in the bassinet forever so I wasn't too worried about when we would make the switch. People would ask me "Have you moved Julianna to her crib yet?" I would answer "No, not yet" and of course the next question was "When are you going to move her?!?!" My answer- "Soon!" Even though I wasn't sure exactly how "soon" it would be. I figured she would let us know when she was ready.
A few days before she started getting up on her knees in the crib, she had started poking her little head up and peeking over the bassinet and that is when I knew it was time make the big switch-a-roo! It was weird the first night laying in bed and not having her right beside me. I must admit, I was a little sad and teary.
For the most part Jules has been doing pretty well with the move. Some nights she will wake up more than others. I'm not sure if she is waking up just because she is in her crib now or if it is because she is teething. Maybe a combination of both? I am also getting use to her half-waking up at 6am. When that happens, I will change her, we go back to my bed and snooze an extra hour or two and then we are ready to start our day!
The transition from the bassinet to the crib hasn't been perfect but it hasn't been as horrible as I thought it would be, which is always a good thing, now I just have to get around to actually packing the bassinet away. :(

Found you through Mama's Nestwork.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move to her own crib. It can be challenging, but she'll be fine. I'll be following along from now.
BTW - am a fellow LA-er :-)

Life changes can be hard...When my oldest moved to a different state that was hard for me.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are doing a great job so far! Hopefully she starts getting used to being in the crib more! It makes things a lot easier when you don't have to worry about her falling out in the middle of the night. ;) I can't believe she's already 6 months old!!!
ReplyDeleteMy babies have never sept a night in our room, but I've heard from my friends when they did it was a sad transition for the momma!
ReplyDeleteI have the crib right beside our bed and love it. It makes getting up in the night with her so much easier.
ReplyDeleteI'm dreading the crib transition and my little one is only a month old! I love having her sleep in the same room with me.
ReplyDeleteI had to move mine earlier than I thought because I couldn't sleep with him waking every two hours and hubby snoring! I would have loved to have him in longer but no such luck! Some days I dream that I will co-sleep with the next one...but that won't work if hubby is still snoring!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Mommy's Nestwork.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the transition. Sometimes it is harder on mommy than it is on the baby. :)
Mamahood, Among Other Things...
I am also visiting for Mama's Nestwork. I'm your newest follower!!
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you I know SO MANY moms that have been thru this and also SO MANY moms who make you feel guilty about it. I had to decided what was best for my lil princess and for me. She eventually slept in her crib. Now she sleeps in a toddler bed but sometime in the middle of the night she finds her way back to our bed. Some nights...no MOST nights I can't wait for her to come to our bed. I don't sleep soundly until she is there and neither does she. A friend of mine, a single DAD at that has a 5 year old and he told me when I was going thru the I have to get her to stay in her room at night phase. He told me that if he woke up in the morning and his daughter wasn't in his bed he would probably cry. ME too!! I love my lil princess. Listen to her heart and not the guilt trippers!!
Good luck! Each of these little transitions is tough - our little ones grow up WAY to fast.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower from Mama's Little Nestwork! Love your idea of a picture every month with t-shirt(onesie)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good start to me. You'll both be more comfortable with the arrangement soon enough.
ReplyDeletePopping in from Mama's Little Nestwork and now following you.

1st, what a cutie she is!! Quite the infectious little smile she has. <3
ReplyDelete2nd, my youngest was in our room at night until he was about 7 months too. He still randomly sleeps in there with us but not every night. It was a harder transition for me than it was for him for sure! I missed my little snoring bedside bug!
(Now following through the nestwork!)
