She Can't Possibly be Teething...Can She?

From the day Julianna was born she has spoiled me with her very laid back attitude. Nothing really seemed to annoy her or rile her up and the only time she would cry was when she was hungry. To my surprise and relief she has continued this trend and for that I am so very blessed! (Maybe this is why I wouldn't mind having baby #2 sooner rather than later. ) So you can imagine my surprise when my baby started sporting her cranky pants a couple of nights ago to what seemed to be out of the blue. Then overnight, all of the other signs appeared that now lead me to believe we are entering the land of teething.
  • drool- in copious amounts
  • chewing on anything she can get her mouth on-she has quite an impressive bite (ouch!)
  • extreme irritability-usually in the early evening/evening hours
  • crying-not just any crying. it is the kind of crying that seems to just come out of nowhere and usually starts off silent then proceeds to pierce the eardrums . (it breaks my heart)
  • refuses to take a bottle- only when her daddy tries to feed her she will fight it but when i feed her she is fine. I'm not sure if this is really something that teething is causing or not but I know it makes him sad. :(
I hope she starts feeling better soon, I don't like seeing her in pain!!

Now that teething has begun, it has me wondering when she will get her first tooth! I can't even imagine her with teeth yet. I know it can take some time before she may actually have a pearly white pop up but that won't stop me from obsessively checking her gums from now on!

I know every baby is different but when did your little one start teething/get their first tooth?

What helped the most with their discomfort?

  1. Thanks! I think Rylie started teething at 4 months and just now (6 months) got her first tooth. I've been asking other moms for advice and some told me to do teething tablets, some said alternate Motrin and Tylenol, and then one of those food strainers that you put frozen food into so they don't choke. Anyways, some days are better than others. I think it's all trial and error! Thanks for stopping by my blog! And I got Rylie's sunglasses at Janie and Jack outlet! :)

  2. All my kids were different, my first get hers at about 4 months.. Her first New years eve she spent biting her dad's leather wallet alday. She is now 25 and her daughter is 4 1/2 months. Her baby sounds like yours where she was never crabby since birth and this week on Tuesday her baby my granddaughter woke of screaming for 2 1/2 hours. Mind you this baby never screamed before. She has been chewing on everything. Hope your little one and my granddaughter get their teeth soon so mama can be happy a gain.

  3. I just wrote you an e-mail saying exactly this but I'll say it again. Emilia started teething at 3 months and her first tooth didn't cut through until just after 6 months. Teething tablets saved my life!!! (especially since you aren't allowed to give Motrin until after 6 months old). They are fantastic and will help you keep your sanity.

The bad news, once teething starts it doesn't stop. We are going on a full year of teething. On the bright side, whenever Emilia is super cranky we can always just blame it on her teeth and pray that she's not going to be like this all of the time! :)

  5. Hyland Homeopathic Teething Tablets are the only way to go!!! My oldest child started teething around 3 months, got her first tooth at 6 months and a new one every two weeks after for two months! The teething tablets work wonders. They melt in their mouth so there's no choking and they are drug free but man do they work. Good luck!
